Velocity Open Season With Victory vs Tompkins County Community College
The Velocity 18u Showcase opened their 2024-2025 season with a close 16-15 victory to open a double-header. After two innings of close softball, the Velocity opened a six run lead by scoring eight runs in the top of the 3rd. The Panthers and Velocity would trade runs for the rest of the game, but the Velocity held off the Panthers.
Velocity collected four hits in the game compared to six hits for the Panthers. The pitchers faced some opening day nervousness, as the game had a combined total
of 27 walks from five different pitchers. Velocity committed two fielding errors in the game while TC3 had four fielding errors.
Tompkins Cortland County opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning when A Medovich homered to left center field, scoring three runs. The Velocity would answer right back with two runs in the 2nd after a passed ball and throwing error by catcher K Raudez. A Medovich would strike again in the bottom of the inning with a single to left field scoring one run.
The top of the third inning proved to be the difference in the game. Velocity broke open for eight runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI single by
Addison VanLare and a two RBI triple by Kalli Meyer.
Rowan Hennessy earned the win for the Velocity. The right handed starter gave up four hits and 12 runs (seven earned) over three innings, striking out three Panthers and walking 12. K Grover took the loss for the TC3 Panthers. The pitcher went two innings, giving up six runs (four earned) on three hits. Abigail Lakie earned the save in relief, going two innings with three runs (zero earned), two hits, three walks and one strikeout.
